FOX 46 Charlotte is all about getting results and Tuesday kicked off a very special partnership with Purple Heart Homes.
The organization, co-founded by Dale Beatty and John Gallina, provides housing solutions for service connected disabled veterans. Their mission: to provide “housing for Service Connected Disabled Veterans that is substantial in function, design, and quality fit to welcome home the fighting men and women of America.”
They’ll tell you each project is different.
“It’s all going to depend on what we’re doing at their home,” said Brad Borders, the construction director for the job. “Sometimes veterans don’t know what they need. They know what they want, but they don’t know what they need and we assess each job based on safety and accesibility.”
Tuesday morning, members of the FOX 46 team headed out Tega Cay, SC to the home of three-time Purple Heart recipient Jackie Drakeford. Drakeford has trouble walking from his war injuries. He said the stairs in his home are too steep for him and the boards on his front porch are starting to weather.
To date, Purple Heart Homes has completed more than 315 projects for veterans. Members of the organization say the best part of any project is getting toknow the veteran they’ll be helping.
