Former Statesville School Athletic Director charged with student rape, police say

STATESVILLE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — A former athletic director at Statesville Christian School has been arrested for rape and sexually assaulting a female student multiple times between 2012 and 2014, according to the authorities.

Statesville resident Derone McNeil, 47, was arrested on Wednesday after officers received a report from a school administrator at Statesville Christian School.

Investigators with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office began interviewing the victim, who says the assaults occurred multiple times over the course of a three-year period.

Other witnesses were able to corroborate the victim’s statements in separate interviews. McNeil declined to speak with detectives when he was initially approached. Soon after warrants were obtained for his arrest.

McNeil faces over 70 charges including rape and sexual activity with a student by school personnel.

He is being held under a $2 million bond.
