A fire heavily damaged a local church Thursday morning in Rock Hill, according to fire officials on scene.
The fire happened at 6:18 a.m. Thursday, April 5 at Gospel Light Baptist Church located at 832 W Main Street.
“We are certainly devastated by it, but we are going to trust to Lord,” said Pastor Bruce Wyatt.
Pastor Wyatt says he got the call after his morning devotions around 7 a.m. by the time he got to the church significant damage was done.
“We had several members here and we gathered together for prayer and we’re just going to process it,” Wyatt said.
Upon arrival, firefighters said they observed heavy flames shooting through the roof of the church.
W. Main was closed between Cherry and Constitution while crews battled the flames early Thursday morning. Luckily, no injuries have been reported.
Wyatt says for now they’re planning on using their resource hall beside the church for worship.
While members have called the church home for a decade they know it’s they’re family, not the building, that brings them all together.
“We have to remember this is a building, this isn’t the church. The church is the body of Christ and the people and that’s what makes up the church so it will go forward and will continue to forge ahead,” said Wyatt.
The cause of the church fire remains under investigation.
