Family, friends make sure Dale Beatty’s legacy lives on

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — With tears welling in her eyes, Belinda Beatty talked about the day her husband, Army veteran Dale Beatty, passed away.
The family was at home before their three kids went to school; Beatty suddenly was having trouble breathing.
“When the paramedics came, I really thought it was going to be OK,” she said, “that he was going to be OK.“

Dale Beatty died from blood clots in his lungs at the age of 39. Tuesday, February 27, was his wife’s birthday, but for the past two weeks her focus has been making sure her kids are OK, and adjusting to a new normal without him.
“They’re doing good,” she said referring to their three young children. “They’re doing as best as they can. I’m super proud of them,” she said fighting back tears.
Beatty lost his legs after an explosion while serving in Iraq. He and his partner on the battlefield started Purple Heart Homes, an organization that helps disabled veterans.
John Gallina was campaigning for Senate; he since suspended his campaign to help Beatty’s family.
“Being battle buddies for nearly 22 years, we had a commitment to each other to not leave each other behind and to not leave our families behind,” he told FOX 46 Charlotte, “and we’ll honor that.”
The foundation they started will continue to help veterans. Since Beatty’s death Purple Heart Homes has received an influx of donations and people asking to volunteer.

Beatty always made sure his service brothers and sisters weren’t forgotten, and now those who loved him want to pay it forward.
If there’s anything his wife would like him to know, it’s this:
“So many things,” Belinda Beatty said, “but I’d want him to know that we were going to be OK, and that we love and miss him very much, but we’re going to be OK.”
