Fallen York County detective to be laid to rest Monday


YORK, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A Celebration of Life service for slain York County Sheriff’s Detective Mike Doty will be held in Charlotte Monday.

The service is planned for noon Monday, January 22 at Calvary Church, located at 5801 Pineville Matthews Road in Charlotte. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery in Rock Hill, SC.

Doty, along side three other law enforcement officers, was injured during an ambush shooting early Tuesday morning following a domestic violence call.

A 12-year veteran of the York County Sheriff’s Office, Doty passed away at the hospital Wednesday as a result of his injuries. His body was brought back to South Carolina from Charlotte in a processional Thursday. 

Also injured were Sgt. Randy Clinton, Sgt. Buddy Brown, both of the York County Sheriff’s Office and Sgt. Kyle Cummings with the York Police Department. Sgt. Clinton is expected to go home from the hospital Friday and Sgt. Brown is expected to be released over the weekend. Sgt. Cummings is at home recovering.

The suspect, 47-year-old Christian McCall, was also injured in the shootout and is currently still in the hospital. Warrants have been issued for his arrest on charges of capital murder, three counts of attempted murder and first-degree domestic violence.
