SALISBURY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A man being held on murder charges escaped from the Rowan County Detention Center Saturday evening, according to authorities.

Timothy Clarence Smith, Jr. escaped from a 2nd floor window of the jail, according to a spokesman with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. He was being held under no bond awaiting trial for a 2016 murder. 

Officers with the Salisbury Police Department and Rowan County Sheriff’s Office searched for Smith until he was found at an apartment in Matika Villa on Gaskey Rd. in Salisbury. After a brief foot chase Smith was taken into custody.

Smith will now face additional charges stemming from his escape,and his attempt to run from deputies.
