Driver dies after attempting to hit pedestrian in northwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) — One person is dead and another injured after a crash Friday night in northwest Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said officers responded to N. Hoskins Road and 2900 Beatties Ford Road in reference to an accident that occurred around 8 p.m.

Ebony Little, 26, the driver of a 1995  Lexus LS400, purposely attempted to hit a person she knew with her car in the 4700 block of Murray Street during an argument. Little fled the scene thereafter and never hit the other person.

She then drove her Lexus in the inbound lane on Beatties Ford Road at a high rate of speed, causing her to drive off the right side of the road onto the sidewalk in the 2900 block of Beatties Ford Road.

Little overcorrected to the left and lost control of her vehicle. Her Lexus crossed the double yellow lane divider into oncoming traffic. The right side of the Lexus struck the front of a Buick Lesabre that was traveling outbond on Beatties Ford Road. After the collision, Little’s Lexus rolled over onto its roof off the left side of the road.

Little was pronounced dead, according to CMPD. The driver of the Buick Lesabre received minor injuries and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment, according to Medic 911. Her family has been notified.

Police say speed and alcohol use are contributing factors to the crash.

Police are still investigating the crash. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
