Driver cited after students injured at school bus stop


CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — The driver of a pickup truck has been cited after police say he hit two students at a school bus stop in south Charlotte Thursday morning.

 It happened about 6:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Scaleybark Road. 

“It’s traumatizing because literally not one minute before that happened I was walking across the street,” said eyewitness Eric Maxwell.

The Myers Park High sophomore recounting scary moments at the bus stop Thursday morning.

“When the bus pulled up we got on, and as soon as we turned around a car from over here hits the pole and hits Kaitlin and Marlee,” Maxwell said. 

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, a school bus was stopped picking up students heading to Myers Park High School, when the driver of a pickup failed to stop and struck two female students. Those students were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The driver has been cited for failing to stop for a stopped school bus, police said. Names of those involved have not yet been released.
