Driver charged in Gastonia hit-and-run

A woman was struck by a vehicle and killed Friday night in Gastonia and now the driver is facing charges.

The incident occurred at 9:45 p.m. along the 2700 block of Court Drive. 

Officers said Wanda Sue Hearn, 44, of Gastonia was walking on Court Drive with her brother when she was struck by a burgundy or dark in color SUV. Hearn died from her injuries on the scene.

The SUV, a 2008 burgandy GMC Acadia, continued west on Court Drive towards Cox Road.

The driver, 21-year-old Katie Montgomery, of Gastonia, has been charged with felony hit and run. Montgomery turned herself into the Gastonia Police Department after officers located her vehicle at a family member’s home.
