Deputies use stun gun on man, dies soon after

STANLY COUNTY, NC (FOX 46) — A man has died after being hit with a stun gun, according to Badin Police.

Badin Police responded to a call for help around 4 a.m. on Thursday at the intersection of Dewey Street and Mayo Street. Marlon Lewis called police saying he was being chased/shot at.

Police said when an officer arrived he saw Lewis acting erratic. He got out of his patrol car and was immediately attacked by Lewis, according to police. Police said the officer’s body camera was ripped off during the attack.

The officer called for backup. Police said two Stanly County Deputies responded and tried to bring Lewis under control.

A Stanly Co. deputy used a stun gun on Lewis but it didn’t have any impact on him, according to police. The three officers then used force to handcuff Lewis. Police said after he was handcuffed, Lewis went into some kind of medical distress. EMS responded and could not revive him. He was pronounced dead on scene.

The NC SBI is now investigating.
