CMPD investigating fatal crash in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) — Charlotte-Mecklenbug Police responded to a fatal accident Wednesday night in north Charlotte.

CMPD responded to the 2900 block of Boxmeer Drive around 6:50 p.m.

When officers arrived they found a vehicle that had run off the roadway, hit an embankment and caught fire.

Police say the Charlotte Fire Department responded and put out the fire.

The drive was pronounced dead on scene. The driver was the only person in the vehicle and no other vehicle were involved, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation. Speed does not appear to be a factor, according to CMPD. Detectives are investigating to see if alcohol was a contributing factor. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Reibold at 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
