CMPD: Body found in woods identified as 23-year-old Sandy Le

CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) — Charlotte detectives say a body discovered in the woods last week in their search for three missing people has been identified as 23-year-old Sandy Le.

Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office made the announcement Monday. Her family has been notified.

CMPD Deputy Chief Doug Gallant says that evidence led detectives to an area off Pine Hill Lane where the Le’ body was found. He went on to say that the area was on one of the last pings from Le’s cell phone, which led them to the spot.

Detectives say they will be working alongside the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office since the remains were discovered in Cabarrus County.

Le, along with Alex Castillo, 17 and Ahmia Feaster, 19, were last seen on August 9. Authorities announced Tuesday that they were treating the case as a homicide after Le’s vehicle was discovered in Arizona.

The FBI is working on the whereabouts of Castillo and Feaster, police said.

“We feel that  given the nature of her disappearance the fact that no one has heard from her, we are very concerned for her safety, ” CMPD Major Cam Sevey said.

On Saturday, Feaster and Castillo called home to say they were safe. Family members believe it was a forced call because it came from a private number and the phone went dead quickly.

Castillo’s stepfather told FOX 46 Charlotte that Castillo’s aunt got a call from Castillo saying he was going to Mexico. Castillo’s mother notified police.

On Saturday morning, a red Dodge Caliber was found along Dulin Creek Boulevard. Police believe it’s the vehicle Ahmia Feaster was last seen driving. Police canvassed the area, but none of the missing were found.

Authorities said the FBI and Arizona Police are involved in the investigation.
