CMPD: Alcohol a factor in fatal east Charlotte crash

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A man who was killed in a two-vehicle wreck Thursday night in east Charlotte has been identified by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Dayton James Dwy, 22, not wearing a seat-belt and was pronounced dead on scene.

The deadly crash happened in the 110 block of Matheson Ave. at Clemson Ave. Upon arrival, officers located a 2006 Chevrolet and a 2001 Ford F650 truck in the road.

Dwy was pronounced dead on scene at 7:55 p.m. The driver of the Ford was transported to CMC-Main with minor injuries.

CMPD said the Chevrolet, driven by the victim, was traveling south on Clemson Ave. towards Matheson Avenue. As the vehicle approached Matheson Ave., it failed to stop for a stop sign. As the Chevrolet entered the intersection, it was struck in the driver’s side by the Ford.

At this time, it appears that speed, failing to stop for a stop sign, and alcohol were factors for Dwy in this wreck.

The crash remains under investigation.
