Charlotte-Mecklenburg police blocked off an area around an east Charlotte apartment complex Thursday after they said two women barricaded themselves inside a unit after being caught driving a stolen car.

The two women peacefully surrendered to CMPD just before 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20.

Police have charged Caleena Reece, 23, and Lisa Laskowski, 20, with armed robbery. Both were taken into custody.

Officers said at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, they located a vehicle that was reported stolen during an armed robbery early Thursday morning in the North Division.

Police said they followed the stolen vehicle until Reece and Laskowski jumped and ran from the vehicle and ran inside an apartment at Peppertree Apartments located at 4335 Central Avenue.

Officers established a perimeter and attempted to make contact with them.

CMPD said residents of the apartment complex were relocated as a precaution. Members from K-9, SWAT and negotiators responded to assist.

One resident who lives in the area went live on Facebook from the scene. A CMPD officer was observed on cell phone video telling one resident there were people in the area that were armed.
This is an ongoing, active investigation.
