Charlotte Latin teams up with CMPD for toy drive

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) — They say giving starts early in life. A group of 8th graders were getting results Thursday morning by helping the CMPD Christmas Explorers Toy Drive.

Organizers said 114 Charlotte Latin 8th graders got results by filling up their carts with some of the same items on their own holiday wish list.

“Money is actually a lot easier to spend than it looks,” said student Colin Adams.

The money used to pay for all the toys was raised over the last several weeks by kids doing chores around the neighborhood or even close to home.

“It’s my favorite project of the year. When we ask students to be responsible they are responsible and they really give from their heart,” said Debbie Lamm from the Charlotte Latin School.

Getting results this year was a little easier after an anonymous donor gave $5,000 towards the shopping spree. The students weren’t only getting results by purchasing gifts they also took action by filling an empty truck that went straight to the CMPD toy drive warehouse.

“Hard work can pay off for other people other than yourself,” said one student.

“It just opens your heart and is very humbling to see so many kids come together for a cause that is beyond them. They will impact more than they realize once these gifts are delivered,” said CMPD Officer Craig Allen.

FOX 46 Charlotte is helping the CMPD Explorers Christmas Project get results for hundreds of children this holiday season.

You can donate a new, unwrapped toy or bicycle to any Charlotte area Police Precinct or Fire Station through December 22.
