Charlotte high school basketball coach arrested for having guns on campus

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — The JV women’s basketball coach at Charlotte Country Day School has been arrested for having two guns on school campus, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. 

Tyrez Tarell Neal, 29, is in custody for possession of a weapon on school grounds. Police say Neal had threatend an assistant coach with the Varsity Men’s Basketball team, Dijuan Harris, also 29, with use of a firearm. 

Around 6:30 p.m. CMPD officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call at 1440 Carmel Rd., Charlotte Country Day.

School security told the officers that an altercation had occurred between two coaches on the school’s campus. 

During the investigation, detectives determined that Neal got into a fight with Harris and threatened him with the guns. 

Officers quickly found Neal’s two guns and arrested him without incident. He is now being held at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
