Bumper car catches fire at Carowinds

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — It was a scary situation for guests at Carowinds after video shows a bumper car on fire Monday afternoon at the amusement park.

FOX 46 Charlotte viewer Scott Spainhour sent us a picture of flames erupting from a bumper car at the Dodg’em ride at Carowinds.

The incident happened about 12:30 p.m. Video shows a park attendant quickly putting out the flames with a fire extinguisher. 

Carowinds confirmed to FOX 46 that there was a small fire on a Dodg’em bumper car. A representative said that the passenger had already left the car and that no one was hurt. 

“The ride attendant immediately responded with a fire extinguisher as trained,” Carowinds said in a statement.

Since the incident, Carowinds said the ride has been inspected and tested, and has resumed normal operations. 

No word yet on why the bumper car caught fire.
