Body armor, firearms, and meth seized during drug bust in Charlotte

A man is facing multiple charges after body armor, night vision goggles, and a number of illegal drugs were found in his possession in Charlotte, police said. 

Refugio Najir Gutierrez Espinoza, 37, was taken into custody this week. 

On Thursday, April 12, the Vice and Narcotics Unit received an anonymous tip of suspected drug sales in the 9400 block of South Tryon Street. Surveillance was conducted which led to a traffic stop on a vehicle, driven by Espinoza.

Espinoza was arrested on traffic-related charges. Further information into the location where Espinoza was first seen led to search warrants issued on the premises. During the search, body armor, night vision goggles, firearms, and a variety of narcotics and drug paraphernalia were seized. 

Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives seized approximately 1580 grams of marijuana, 370 grams of THC oil, 2515 grams of synthetic marijuana, 2950 grams of methamphetamine, seven grams of crystal methamphetamine, and 25 units of prescription medication. 

Espinoza is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, felony possession of marijuana, trafficking synthetic marijuana, trafficking methamphetamine, and trafficking heroine.
