Blue Ridge Parkway has seen 14 million-plus visitors in 2015

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Blue Ridge Parkway is reporting more than 14 million visitors this year.

That reflects visitors through November, and it tops the 13.9 million who saw the sights from the parkway in all of 2014.

The National Park Service said this year’s total is the highest since 2012, when the parkway recorded 15.2 million visitors.

The North Carolina portion of the parkway drew twice as many visitors than Virginia’s stretch. The number of visitors in North Carolina was 9.5 million, while Virginia’s was 4.6 million.

The parkway stretches 469 miles from the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to the Great Smoky National Park in North Carolina.
