CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — For the second time in just over two weeks, Charlotte Water crews were called to Sharon Amity Road to repair a broken pipe.
Nearby, work halted for Metrotech Systems workers who have been drilling to lay fiber lines for Spectrum. A resident from The Regency Apartment Complex nearby sent FOX 46 the message they received from management stating their water was shut off.
“It’s stressful because now we’re taking it upon ourselves to fix our own home and have to deal with that and we were innocent bystanders,” said Stephanie Montoya. “We were at home and the next thing we know our whole life is turned upside down.”
Last month, the Montoyas were forced out of their home and into a rental when their newly renovated house was destroyed by mud and sewage. Metrotech had busted the line in their front yard.
“Metrotech and Spectrum do not want to assume any of the responsibility for the damges to our home and the City of Charlotte says they’re not liable either. It’s going back and forth between them and our home is sitting here with mud.”
Metrotech Systems says it’s not their fault and that Charlotte Water is to blame for not locating the lines.
Charlotte Water sent us the following statement:
“Charlotte Water spray painted our water pipe and contractor did not spot dig to find our pipe, which is required by law.”
The battle for fault continues. In the meantime, Metrotech Systems continues to lay fiber line along N. Sharon Amity Road.
