Army veteran, philanthropist Dale Beatty has died

STATESVILLE, NC — Purple Heart Homes co-founder Dale Beatty has died.

He teamed up with another veteran, John Gallina, to create the non-profit which provides services to combat disabled veteran with housing needs. The organization is nearly 10 years old.

Beatty is a double-amputee following an explosion involving a humvee while deployed with the Army in Iraq.

While the organization may have a Statesville address, its reach and impact has gone across the United States. Qualifying veterans can receive assistance with their current homes or be helped towards the dream of home ownership. A mentor program is also offered.

The work of Dale Beatty and John Gallina has earned the organization a long list of media coverage including when the two graced the cover of Time Magazine with other young veterans making a difference.

Beatty’s cause of death is unknown at this time.

“And what he’s done, to date, has touched more lives than we can ever imagine. And the world lost one of the greatest men I’ve been privileged to know,” said one friend.
