Armed robbery suspect injured in gunfire exchange with security guard


CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — An armed robbery suspect was injured during a gunfire exchange with a security guard Thursday night in southeast Charlotte, police said. 

The robbery happened at 10:22 p.m. at the AIA Arcade located at 5622 E. Independence Boulevard.

CMPD said at least one the suspects was armed with a firearm during the incident. As the two suspects left the business and were in the parking lot, shots were fired by both an armed security guard and by at least one of the suspects, police said. 

One of the robbery suspects was hit by gunfire. The security guard was not injured, police said. 

The suspect who was shot was later dropped off at a hospital by an unknown person where he is being treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound. The second suspect has not been located.
