App State student accused of strangling, assaulting 16-year-old

BOONE, NC (FOX 46) — A student at Appalachian State University has been charged after allegedly strangling a 16-year-old girl, Boone police said.

Jonathan Andrew Blalock, 19 of Winston Salem, was arrested on Sunday on charges of felony assault by strangulation and misdemeanor assault on a female following the incident.

According to Boone police, officers were called to Watauga Medical Center Emergency Department where a 16-year-old girl from Winston Salem was being treated for injuries related to an assault.

Blalock was identified as the assailant and after a preliminary investigation was subsequently arrested.

The investigation is still on going and additional charges may be forthcoming, police said.

Blalock is being held without bond.
