The Charlotte 49ers team and coaching staff are in mourning after learning about the tragic death of Austin Rainey, the 49ers basketball team’s student manager.
Rainey, 19, a sophomore from Chapel Hill, was killed in a car accident in Northern Virginia on Friday, Feb. 19.
The Charlotte 49ers athletic department and men’s basketball program says he was on a trip to Washington, D.C. with some friends when the accident happened.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rainey family during this difficult time,” Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball coach Mark Price said. “Austin was a beloved member of the 49ers basketball family. His uplifting presence will be greatly missed.”
The funeral for Austin Rainey will be at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill, N.C. Friday, Feb. 26 at 11:30 a.m.
