Three family members escaped through a window after a tree came crashing down onto their home overnight in northwest Charlotte, fire officials said.
The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. at a home located on East Todd Lane.
The three cousins told FOX 46 Charlotte there is a train track near their home, and they thought a train had crashed nearby. It wasn’t until they walked out into the living room that they saw the destruction.
“The first thing that I think of is it’s the train, it was so loud and the floor started shaking. You know, I go out to my living room and you know, my living room is gone. Immediately I want to try to get everyone out,” said one of the cousins.
Charlotte Fire helped the family collect some personal items from the home before taping off access. The house is deemed “unlivable” at this time.
