1 person killed in crash involving school bus in Chester


CHESTER, SC (FOX 46) — One person was killed following a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus Monday afternoon. No students were injured. 

The crash happened at 3:25 p.m. Monday, October 24 at the intersection of Ashford Road and Mountain Lakes Road in Chester. 

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, a Chevy sedan was attempting to make a left turn in front of the bus when they collided. The driver of the Chevy, Robert Dixon, 83, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead on scene. 

Chester County School District Bus #20 was transporting 16 students, pre-K through 12th grade, when the crash occurred, the school district said. 

“The safety of our students and staff is a top priority. Law enforcement and the South Carolina Highway Patrol will be actively investigating this incident. We are thankful that our students and our bus driver were not injured in this accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the driver.” Dr.  Angela Bain said.
