1 charged in Huntersville break-in that led to fatal shooting

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — The Huntersville Police Department says one person has been charged in an attempted burglary that led to a fatal shooting on Monday. 

Police say two men, Jaylin Deontaye Griffith, 24, and Kevin William Stevenson, 26 attempted to break into an apartment in the Landings at Northcross in the 1700 block of Northstar Dr. 

The first Huntersville officers arrived on scene within minutes and found the two suspects still on scene.

Griffith was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead at the scene. Stevenson was found suffering from non-life-threatening injuries sustained while attempting to flee the scene and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

He has since been released for the hospital and transported to the Mecklenburg County Intake Center where he was charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by felon, conspiracy to commit first degree burglary and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.
