Matt Grant

Investigative and Political reporter Matt Grant joined FOX 46 Charlotte in September 2017. Matt has been described as a “champion for taxpayers” and his aggressive and dogged reporting has earned him four Emmy’s and an Edward R. Murrow Award.

Since coming to Charlotte, Matt’s reporting has changed federal law, launched several state and federal investigations, sparked a Congressional inquiry into the Federal Air Marshal Service, uncovered an illegal gambling ring, led to the arrest of shady business owners, and reimbursed taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars. Matt’s investigation into a North Carolina Purple Heart Green Beret’s cancer misdiagnosis led to a Congressional hearing and a bill that was signed into law that gives active duty military the ability to be compensated for the first time ever for military medical malpractice. His investigation into fraudulent diplomas was awarded first place in education reporting by the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas.

Before joining FOX 46, Matt Grant worked as an investigative reporter for WESH in Orlando, Fla., FOX 4 in Ft. Myers, Fla., and KRCG in Columbia, Mo. His hard-hitting investigations have uncovered corruption and wrongdoing and sparked change across Florida. Key exposés include: “sub-standard” care and questionable surveillance practices at a Florida Veterans Administration Hospital; suspect use of more than a million dollars of taxpayer “stimulus money” and secret pay raises and dubious practices at a state college. The latter investigation spanned two years and resulted in the firing of the school’s president and vice-president and the renaming of the state college after Matt exposed nursing students were lied to about their program’s lack of accreditation. In Orlando, Matt covered hurricanes and the Pulse nightclub massacre. His two-year investigation into the opioid crisis led to a Florida Board of Pharmacy rule change.

Originally from Long Island, NY, Matt got his start in broadcast journalism as an assignment desk editor for News 12 The Bronx. Matt holds a Master of Science in Journalism from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a minor in Political Science from Marist College. In college, Matt worked for the Marist Poll and interned at WNBC for the political and consumer news units.

Matt is a proud member of Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE), a non-profit organization dedicated to investigative journalism and is a proud supporter of the Special Olympics. When he’s not digging for the next story, he enjoys reading, traveling and hiking. If you have a tip, story idea, or a good local recommendation, Matt can be reached at
